Internship with Jean Drèze

Do you believe that everyone has a right to food and a right to work? Then why not give some of your summer time to help make this a reality?

Some of you have participated in earlier field surveys of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), the Public Distribution System (PDS) and other social programmes that were conducted in various states. These surveys have been very enlightening and the findings have been of great help in supporting campaigns for the right to food and the right to work.   Plans are afoot to launch further action-oriented surveys of this kind during the summer months (May-June 2013).

The surveys are likely to take place in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

Volunteers should be prepared to work in rural areas for at least three weeks, without modern comforts. Prior experience of fieldwork, and fluency in local languages are preferred but not essential. They can cover your basic expenses, but cannot provide other financial support.  This is not a money-making opportunity.   More importantly, it is a chance for you to gain work experience, learn something about rural India, and contribute to the realization of the right to live with dignity.

If you are willing to volunteer, please send a line as soon as possible to If possible, indicate the dates when you are likely to be available and attach your CV.
